What We Build.

Architectural Metal

The design language of architecture is constantly evolving and changing. As a classically trained blacksmith, Matthew is educated in the finest architectural metalwork traditions, while using modern techniques and methods to produce the finest outcome on every project. Classical or modern, the approach is the same, to execute a work of excellence that is appropriate for the space. Matthew has trained his team with the same knowledge and understanding of the craft.

Metal Design

Matthew is available to design and consult on proper metal composition for any project we create. He has over 25 years of experience in the field of architectural metalwork and is educated in varied disciplines of the process. His knowledge ranges from appropriate details of metalwork for various historical periods, to proper metal selection and installation logistics. Before opening his own studio, Matthew was employed at a prestigious hardware company. During this time, he also served as an apprentice with a master European blacksmith. This afforded him the opportunity to work with talented architects and designers, giving him an understanding of the process from idea conception to final product and installation. While the design process can be overwhelming, Matthew and his team work diligently to refine a rough idea to a solid final design.

Sculpture

Artistry has been the heartbeat of our studio since its inception almost 20 years ago. Matthew has a collection of sculptural work that is inspired by natural forms and movements. He creates permanent works in bronze, copper, stainless and other metals. Forging and fabrication methods are both used to create works in a wide range of scale and complexity of form. Light, shadow, texture, form and line come together in his stunning works of art.

Fabrication

While we specialize in forged work, our studio is also available to produce fabricated metalwork. We use welding, laser cutting, press work, roll bending and many other modern methods to create a final product. Our team is also skilled in the proper techniques of finish and final detailing. The goal for MHS is to make works of excellence that will long outlast us and stand the test of time.

Public Art

Our studio takes great pride in the public art opportunities with which we have been entrusted. We view each work as an opportunity to bridge culture, art, architecture and the public space. Matthew strongly believes in using metal to create works of art that will last for centuries and make statements to stand the test of time. His heart is to create work which is positive in message and context, unifies, empowers and encourages those who take the time to digest the meaning behind it.

Project Management

At Matthew Harris Studio, our dedication to excellence goes beyond the art and skill of blacksmithing. We know how stressful the beginning of a new project can be, that is why we offer project management throughout the entire process. Our team leads you every step of the way by offering consultation in design, material selection, scheduling, and quality control. We ensure that each project aligns seamlessly with your vision and specifications. From concept to installation, our team takes pride in delivering a meticulously crafted masterpiece that surpasses your expectations.
