2022 PIF Hammer-In

Hey everyone! Its only a little over a week away from our 15th annual hammer in! We are excited to welcome everyone back for another great day to hang out with us at historic Principio Furnace.

Our heart in starting this event was really simple. Let’s pull down some of the walls of ego, distance, and segregation, and foster an environment for craftspeople and artists from any discipline are welcome to gather, fellowship and share. For 14 years we’ve been thankful to do exactly that, because we believe God loves people, and the easiest way to show that is to create an open environment where people know they are flat out welcome.

The theme of the event has always centered around Blacksmithing, just like our own work. Each year we have a featured demonstrator and this year is Steve House from England, Chris Cash from Fredrick, MD and Matt Stagmer from Fredrick, MD. Together they will be forging an 18th century stake anvil. Real wrought iron with a forge welded steel face, just like 200 years ago.

We are also excited to announce the addition of several jewelry making demos. Wayne Werner will demonstrate “Small Scale Forging”, Matt Durante will demonstrate “Making Silver Ingots”, and Ted McDonah will demo “Mokume with a Twist” This is a beautiful blend of large scale and small scale forging by many talented artist that you never get to see demonstrate their craft.

The event is free, just send us an email at matt@mh.studio to rsvp. Safety glasses are required to watch any demonstration. For more information here’s Matthew’s video announcement.
